Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Terra Sancta is a New Zealand winery located in Bannockburn, not far from Queenstown in Central Otago. Founded by Sarah Eliott and Mark Weldon, the company owns four organically farmed vineyards in the area's finest sites, where the vines enjoy favorable soil and climate conditions for producing high-quality wines. The Pinot Noir grapes, primarily clone 777, are harvested from the Jackson's Block vineyard. Here, the vines, grown organically and according to regenerative practices, were planted in 1991 and 1995 on soils of lake loam, quartz, and shale gravel. After manual harvesting, fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels (20% new). In the glass, Terra Sancta Jackson's Block Pinot Noir reveals a broad and layered aromatic profile with initial notes of blackberry and black cherry, followed by hints of sweet spice, licorice, and violet, with underlying mineral aromas. On the palate, it is complex and vibrant, concentrated, and deep. It has fine tannins, good structure, and a pleasant minerality. The finish is long and intensely fruity. It is an elegant wine, a pure expression of its terroir, capable of aging well for over a decade. Try it with grilled duck breast or roasted porcini mushrooms.
