Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it an hour before service. Zisola is a winery located near the village of Noto in southeastern Sicily, owned by the Mazzei family since 2003. The estate extends over approximately 50 hectares, 24 of which are vineyards, the remainder occupied by citrus, olive, and almond trees, and features a small cellar for winemaking and aging. The Nero d'Avola grapes, a native Sicilian red variety, come from vineyards located in the municipality of Noto, a short distance from the sea, at approximately 130 meters above sea level. The bush-trained vines, planted on medium-textured, predominantly calcareous soils, are between 15 and 20 years old and enjoy south-east exposure. After harvest, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, and the finished wine ages for 10 months in used barriques. In the glass, the wine reveals a radiant, intense ruby color. Its aromatic profile is fragrant and layered, with notes of berries and red citrus fruits intertwined with spicy hints. On the palate, it is rich, full, and juicy, with a soft, smooth texture and fine tannins. It is fresh and balanced, with a long, fruity, and satisfying finish. Try it with grilled meats and pasta dishes with meat sauces.
