Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Bouchard Père & Fils is a Burgundy winery founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, a former textile merchant. The estate, which today covers approximately 130 hectares of vineyards spread across the Côte d'Or, entered into a partnership with Artémis Domaines in 2022. The Pinot Noir grapes come from a vineyard planted on clay-limestone soils in Savigny-Les-Beaune, a few kilometers north of Beaune. After harvesting, fermentation takes place in wooden vats with a twenty-day maceration on the skins. The finished wine then ages for ten months in French oak (30% new barriques) before bottling. The result is an elegant and balanced red wine with a fruity character that is not lacking in structure and smoothness. In the glass, it reveals a brilliant ruby red color and a fragrant and broad aromatic profile with notes of cherry, raspberry, and small wild berries, floral hints, and a light, animal, undergrowth undertone. On the palate, it is round and generous, concentrated and juicy, with silky tannins and a refreshing, balanced acidity. Try it with grilled duck breast or lamb chops, or with porcini mushroom lasagna.
